Im not sure that anyone will have these or even that anyone checks this community out
but
If you do check this community out, i'm desperately in need of some Alan Lomax blues and spirituals recordings.
If anyone could upload some for me that'd be great.
Thankyou.

Some music for you to download. I've sorted this by album and then posted a sample song or two so you can see whether or not you'd like to download the full thing. I don't want to bombard this community, so if you want more, feel free to take from my blog.

FREE HIP HOP, SOUL, JAZZ, FUNK MP3S ANYONE? [14 Nov 2005|04:08am]

chasingred
Thought you guys might be interested that I'm turning my journal into a mp3 blog w/ posts on a semi-daily basis. Genres featured will mostly be hip hop, jazz, funk, R&B, and soul. Sometimes rock, spoken word, blues, and early 20s Black music will be featured as well. Also, once a week, I'll post a hip hop video from the 80s and 90s since I have a large collection of them.

You can check out my last three posts and see if the music suits you. Remember that each posts will contain *at least* mp3s in soul, jazz, funk and hip hop. More to come. Enjoy, share, and spread the word.

Leave feedback to let me know what you would like to see more of too. Requests are welcome.

Sharon Jones: Funk's Best Kept Secret [04 Aug 2005|04:20pm]

““You’ve got to feel it,” is the first thing that comes from the mouth of seasoned soul singer Sharon Jones when asked what makes great music. “You’ve got to feeel it! In your bones, your heart, in everything and everywhere!” Ms. Jones’s funk pedigree can be traced to her hometown of Augusta, Georgia, the same town that birthed the Godfather of Soul himself: James Brown. Moreover, it didn’t take long for the young Sharon to be encouraged to take the spirit from the gospel and apply it to a more secular setting. This setting was realized when as a teenager she moved with her family to Brooklyn, NY and soon found herself saturated with the pulse of funk and disco. Little time passed before she became a staple within the studios, doing often uncredited back-up work for gospel, soul, disco and blues artists. However, when the commercial music landscape began to radically change during the ‘80s, demand for singers such as Sharon waned, and she soon found herself working at Rykers Island Jail as a corrections officer. Fast forward to 1996. Sharon crosses paths with NYC’s great indie-soul & funk label Desco Records. Sharon’s first full-length album, 2002’s successful Dap Dippin’ with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kingson Brooklyn-based Daptone Records, served to solidify her reputation as Soul Sister # 1. – Bio, Daptone Records

Hear clips from her latest album, Naturally with the Dap Kings featuring a special appearance with Lee Fields.

Hi Guys, I thought I'd give you all a quick plug in. I started a new MySpace group for people in the Southeastern US. Its for anyone interested in 60's Style, Music and Culture. I thought our side of the nation could use a little more networking, so if your interested you should join up. If you have any events, parties or concerts that you would like to promote, this is the group for you.
